Patch 12.0.7, heading into 12.1

The Complete Midnight Tailoring Guide

Everything a Quel'Thalas tailor needs, the 1 to 100 route, every Knowledge Point source, the spec path that actually pays, endgame crafting, and a Season 2 plan before the reset lands.

TL;DR: the five things that matter

If you read nothing else, read these.

Takeaway 1

Midnight is live, 12.1 is days away

World of Warcraft: Midnight launched March 2, 2026 (Blizzard: “launching worldwide on March 2, 2026, at 3:00 pm PST”). As of August 7, 2026 the live patch is 12.0.7 (Season 1). Patch 12.1 “Curse of Ula’tek” launches August 11 (NA; EU reset Aug 12), with Season 2 starting August 18.

Takeaway 2

Skill runs 1 to 100

The trainer is Galana in Silvermoon City, Bazaar of the Sun (~48.0, 61.5). Bank roughly 40 to 50 Knowledge Points on day one from first-craft bonuses, 8 treasures worth 24 KP, and the renown book. About 19 KP per week after that.

Takeaway 3

First 20 points go to Nimble Needlework

That single node unlocks daily cooldown bolts and enables Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave to drop from mobs. Skipping it is the most common, most expensive mistake tailors make.

Takeaway 4

The money is in four things

Cooldown bolts, spellthreads, embellishment linings, and bags. Arcanoweave Lining is the season’s most universal embellishment. Income is steady rather than explosive: margins compress within about two weeks of a fresh economy.

Takeaway 5

Season 2 wipes the slate

Patch 12.1 raises the gearing curve by 46 item levels (Blizzard bumped the PTR jump from 39 to 46), adds a new upgrade currency and Spark reagent, and includes a one-time profession Knowledge reset. Do not overspend Sparks or crests right before it.

Every Patch 12.1 and Season 2 number in this guide is PTR-sourced and Blizzard-previewed, not final. Those sections are labeled as subject to change.

Fast start: Day 1 to Day 7

The exact opening week for a tailor starting today.

Day 1 AM
Learn Tailoring from Galana in Silvermoon City’s Bazaar of the Sun. Buy Silverleaf Thread and Embroidery Floss from the supply vendor next to her.
Day 1
Buy the leveling mats off the Auction House (see the shopping list) and craft Bright Linen Bolts. Push to skill 25.
Day 1
At skill 25, spend 20 Knowledge Points into the Nimble Needlework root immediately. This unlocks both bolt cooldowns and turns on Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave mob drops.
Day 1
Collect all 8 Tailoring treasures across Silvermoon City, Eversong Woods, Zul’Aman, Harandar, and the Voidstorm for 24 free KP. Use the TomTom waypoints below or the HandyNotes addon.
Day 1 to 2
Craft every first-craft recipe. Filter your profession book by “First Craft Bonus” for +1 KP each plus experience.
Day 2
Start your daily bolt cooldowns (Arcanoweave Bolt and Sunfire Silk Bolt). Do these every single day from now on. This is your passive income backbone.
Day 2 to 3
Craft profession equipment. Get the Farstrider Fabric Cutters (from an Engineer), Thalassian Needle Set (from a Blacksmith), and self-craft the Bright Linen Tailoring Robe. Equip all three.
Day 3 to 5
Level to 60 via trainer recipes (Courtly gear, Bright Linen Spellthread), then push toward 100 with cooldown bolts and linings.
Day 4+
Raise Silvermoon Court renown to 6 and buy the “Skill Issue: Tailoring” book for 10 KP. Grab the Arcanoweave Spellthread recipe at Renown 5.
Day 5 to 7
Establish your weekly loop: treatise, weekly quest, 4 KP treasure drops, Patron Orders, daily bolts, and a cloth farm session.

Leveling and skill-up path (1 to 100)

Trainer, the system changes veterans keep tripping over, and the craft-by-craft route.

Trainer and how to learn

Learn Tailoring from Galana in Silvermoon City, Bazaar of the Sun (~48.0, 61.5). The crafting table and profession supply vendors are right next to her. Buy Silverleaf Thread and Embroidery Floss from the supply vendor; both are vendor-sold reagents used in leveling crafts.

Midnight system changes veterans must unlearn

Two reagent ranks, not three

Only Silver and Gold now. Bronze quality is gone. You always get at least Silver and can use Concentration immediately for Gold.

No more unraveling

You craft bolts directly from cloth. The old cloth to spool to bolt step is removed.

Moxie replaces Acuity

Artisan’s Acuity is replaced by Artisan Tailor’s Moxie, a profession-specific currency. You cannot feed Moxie between professions anymore.

Epic profession gear exists

It offers more secondary stats than Rare, with the same base skill bonus.

Gear still has 5 ranks

Weapons, armor, and profession equipment keep 5 ranks. Only reagents and consumables dropped to two.

Skill-up progression and craft-by-craft route

Phase 1 · skill 1 to 25

Bright Linen Bolts

Craft 66x Bright Linen Bolt (uses 66 Bright Linen). Keep crafting even after they go grey around skill 20, because you need the bolts for later crafts.

Phase 2 · skill 25 to 40

Spec unlock and imbued bolts

At skill 25, unlock your first specialization. Spend 20 KP into the Nimble Needlework root now. Learn Imbued Bright Linen Bolt (trainer, skill 25) and craft 14x of them (uses 28 Bright Linen Bolt).

Phase 3 · skill 40 to 50

First-craft sweep

Filter your book by “First Craft Bonus” and craft each remaining recipe once for +1 KP each. Many will be grey but still give the KP. Craft and equip the Bright Linen Tailoring Robe, then top up with 6x Courtly Shoulders (12 Bright Linen Bolt) to reach about 50.

Phase 4 · skill 50 to 100

Pick one of two paths

Slow and profitable, or rush and expensive. Both are laid out below.

★ Recommended for most

Slow and profitable

Spend 5 KP to unlock a bolt cooldown, then craft Arcanoweave Bolt and Sunfire Silk Bolt daily. Each gives 2 skill points up to skill 80. Reaching 80 takes about two weeks. Fill in with Patron Orders and high-end consumables. You will not hit guaranteed Gold quality for a long time, so there is little reason to rush.

Alternate · rush to 100 (fast, expensive)

  • 50 to 65: 30x Bright Linen Spellthread (60 Imbued Bright Linen Bolt, 60 Eversinging Dust).
  • 65 to 90: ~28x Sunfire Silk Lining (168 Sunfire Silk, 56 Sunfire Silk Bolt) OR ~28x Arcanoweave Lining (168 Arcanoweave, 56 Arcanoweave Bolt). Both recipes are AH drops.
  • 90 to 100: ~13x Elegant Artisan’s Cooking Hat (or any Elegant Artisan recipe): 67 Mote of Light, 107 Sunfire Silk Bolt, 40 Radiant Shard. Recipe costs 150 Artisan Tailor’s Moxie from the supply vendor.

Full leveling shopping list

1 to 50 (WoW-Professions route)

  • 66x Bright Linen
  • 14x Eversinging Dust
  • Silverleaf Thread and Embroidery Floss (vendor-bought, as needed)

Icy Veins 1 to 60 variant

  • 119x Silverleaf Thread
  • 20x Eversinging Dust
  • 20x Imbued Bright Linen Bolt
  • 14x Bright Linen
  • 29x Bright Linen Bolt
  • 46x Embroidery Floss

50 to 100 depends on your chosen path. Bolt cooldowns cost only daily mats; the rush route needs the Sunfire Silk, Arcanoweave, Mote, and Radiant Shard totals listed above.

Knowledge Point system

Midnight uses Knowledge Points spent in specialization trees, plus Artisan Tailor’s Moxie (a profession-specific currency) used to buy recipes.

One-time KP sources

Source KP Details
Renown book “Skill Issue: Tailoring” 10 Caeris Fairdawn, Eversong Woods. Costs 75 Artisan Tailor’s Moxie. Requires Renown 6 with Silvermoon Court
8 profession treasures 24 (3 each) Silvermoon City (2), Eversong Woods (1), Zul’Aman (1), Harandar (2), Voidstorm (2)
First-craft bonuses ~1 each Every recipe crafted once

Weekly sources (about 19 KP per week total)

Source KP Notes
Patron Crafting Orders ~12 Bulk of weekly KP. Grants “Glimmer of Midnight Tailoring Knowledge.” Not every order rewards KP
Weekly quest (3 crafting orders) 2 From trainer; grants “Thalassian Tailor’s Notebook.” Requires completing the “Crafters Needed” questline from Captain Flaresworn first
Weekly treasure drops 4 Loot “Embroidered Memento” and “Finely Woven Lynx Collar” (1 each) from zone treasures
Inscription Treatise 1 “Thalassian Treatise on Tailoring” is BoP; order via public crafting order or craft on an Inscription alt

The four specialization trees

Tree Unlocks at skill What it does
Nimble Needlework 25 Daily bolt cooldowns (Arcanoweave, Sunfire Silk), embellished cloaks/treads/bracers, and enables rare cloth mob drops
Sin’dorei Finery 50 Epic cloth armor recipes for all 9 slots (Martyr’s set)
Fabric Specialist 60 Increases cloth drop rates and quality while farming; zone sub-specs. Also holds 15 hidden all-Tailoring skill boosts
Fiber Arts 75 Crafting stat boosts (skill, Multicraft, Resourcefulness) plus the Embroidery sub-tree that boosts spellthread and embellishment crafts

★ Primary recommendation

Gold-making crafters: Nimble Needlework first

  1. 20 points into Nimble Needlework root (both bolt cooldowns plus rare cloth drops).
  2. 30 points into Creative Efficiency (Fiber Arts) for Multicraft.
  3. 10 into Fiber Arts root, then 30 into Textile Utilization for Resourcefulness.
  4. Then grab the Fabric Specialist Multicraft node (it boosts all Tailoring recipes) and mop up hidden skill nodes.

Self-sufficient personal crafters

Sin'dorei Finery (armor crafting)

  • 5 into root, pick the sub-spec leading to your wanted slot, 10 into it for your first recipe.
  • Max the middle sub-spec, then the root.
  • 30 into Fiber Arts root for all-recipe skill.
  • Then either unlock all slots (30 each into the other two sub-specs) or chase Gold-without-Concentration.

Raid and M+ gear crafters

Same opening, different priority

Same Sin’dorei Finery opening as the personal crafter, but prioritize the specific slot or slots your class wants (bracers, cloak, belt, boots), then rush the Fiber Arts skill and Resourcefulness nodes so you can hit max quality on Crafting Orders.

Recipes

What you can make, and where each recipe comes from.

Epic cloth armor (Martyr's set)

Learned via the Sin’dorei Finery spec tree: Crown, Mantle, Adherent’s Silken Shroud (back), Vestments, Bindings, Gloves, Waistwrap, Leggings, Slippers. All 9 slots.

PvP gear

Thalassian Competitor’s set, all 9 slots, bought from vendor Mirvedon in Silvermoon City.

  • Bags: Imbued Bright Linen Backpack (35), Bright Linen Reagent Satchel (35), Arcanoweave Reagent Rucksack (50), Sunfire Silk Backpack (50).

House Decor

Chic Silvermoon Pillow and Plush Silvermoon Bed (both from Deynna), Lush Telogrus Carpet (The Singularity Renown 5), Luxurious Silvermoon Lounge Cushion (Eversong treasure drop), Silvermoon Curtains (quest), Voidstrider Saddlebag (Stormarion Pinnacle Cache drop).

Gear crafting for endgame

Item level ceilings, Sparks, embellishment meta, and what not to waste mats on.

Item level ceiling and upgrade path (Season 1)

246 to 259
Spark-crafted epic base ilvl
272
with 80 Hero Dawncrests
285
with 80 Myth Dawncrests
289
Mythic ceiling for reference
  • Spark of Radiance gates it: one per week from Lady Liadrin’s weekly quest in Silvermoon (~49.0, 64.6). Most epic pieces cost 2 Sparks; two-handed weapons cost 4. A one-time catch-up Spark comes from Lor’themar Theron’s “Midnight: World Tour” quest.
  • Crafted gear can be recrafted upward later, so an early craft is not wasted.

Missives and quality tiers

Use Inscription-made Algari Missives (quality 3) to pick secondary stats (Haste, Mastery, Versatility, Crit). Reagents come in two quality tiers (Silver and Gold); use Gold mats or Concentration to hit max quality.

Embellishment rules and this season’s meta

The slot rule

Unique-Equipped: Embellished (2). You can wear only two embellished items at once. Two crafted embellished pieces provide up to about a 1.5% throughput gain at current max item levels, per Ask Mr. Robot’s analysis.

What is actually meta

Arcanoweave Lining is the most universal embellishment this season, appearing across tanks, healers, and DPS, usually on bracers, cloaks, belts, or boots. Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt (Inscription) is the other top pick, favored on crafted weapons. Root Warden’s Regalia (Leatherworking two-piece) is a spec-package choice for some Hunter, Shaman, and Evoker builds.

Best near-BiS tailoring pieces for cloth casters and healers

Bracers and cloak carrying double Arcanoweave Lining is the safe, near-universal setup for cloth DPS (Mage, Warlock, Shadow Priest) and healers (Holy and Discipline Priest). Preservation Evoker is a notable exception where the Root Warden’s Regalia two-piece is equally competitive. Devastation Evoker can run either double Arcanoweave Lining on cheap slots or a Jewelcrafting-based setup.

Season 2 endgame changes

Subject to change: PTR
  • Season 2 raises the gearing curve by 46 item levels over Season 1. Blizzard increased the PTR jump from 39 to 46 item levels after early feedback.
  • New upgrade currency: Mistcrests (replacing Dawncrests), five tiers.
  • New Spark reagent: Spark of Tides (replacing Spark of Radiance); still one per week, used directly (2 to 4 per craft).
  • Projected Season 2 ladder: Champion 1/6 is about 291 to 292, Hero 6/6 is about 321.
  • Over-cap crafted weapons, trinkets, and necklaces can be pushed above the standard cap with 10 Ascendant Venomstones per item.
  • Tailoring gets one new embellishment that procs a DPS effect on an armor piece. Part 2 has the datamined name.

Gold making

Where the margin actually lives, and how to hold it on a competitive realm.

Highest-margin crafts right now

Rank 1

Daily cooldown bolts

Arcanoweave Bolt and Sunfire Silk Bolt. Best passive income; used in almost every high-end recipe. One of each per day, per character. Ideal for alt armies.

Rank 2

Spellthreads

Especially Arcanoweave Spellthread and the raid-drop Sunfire Silk Spellthread. Consumable, repeat demand. If you get the recipe before your realm’s competition you set the price.

Rank 3

Embellishment linings

Arcanoweave Lining and Sunfire Silk Lining. Every cloth class wants them for endgame.

Rank 4

Bags

Sunfire Silk Backpack and Arcanoweave Reagent Rucksack. Consistent demand; margins compress within about 2 weeks as competitors flood in, but always worth making.

Rank 5

Epic and combat gear

Made via Crafting Orders (BoP, higher tips).

Crafting order strategy

  • Advertise in trade chat, for example: “Tailor: epic cloth chest/legs, provide mats, pay 3k commission.” Each fill gives skill points and the customer supplies the expensive Arcanoweave Bolt.
  • Use public orders to acquire your BoP treatises and to sell BoP epic gear.
  • Realistic spellthread pricing: roughly 1,200 to 1,800 gold each early season (varies heavily by realm).

Bag market analysis

Bags are Tailoring’s most consistent category. Every alt and new character needs them, so demand never stops. Supply also never stops, so expect margins to compress after the first couple of weeks. The endgame bags (Sunfire Silk Backpack, Arcanoweave Reagent Rucksack) have higher material cost but better margins. Note: a single Sunfire Silk Backpack needs 32 Sunfire Silk plus bolts, so material acquisition is the real constraint.

Buy vs farm materials

Bright Linen

Cheap and abundant; buy off the AH unless you enjoy farming.

Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave

Farm these yourself if specced (they gate high-end crafts and sell well), or buy in bulk when cheap.

Cooldown bolts

Usually worth crafting even at minimum quality.

Crafting stats: which to prioritize

Stat Verdict
Multicraft The single best stat for anything stackable (bolts, linings, spellthreads). A roughly 20% proc averaging 1.5x yield is about 30% more output for the same mats. One Lazy Goldmaker example: a rare tailoring tool with a max-quality Multicraft enchant raised Arcanoweave Bolt profit by about 300 gold per craft and paid for itself in about 40 cooldown cycles.
Ingenuity Refunds up to 70% of Concentration spent. Best after Multicraft when Concentration-crafting cheap mats into Gold quality.
Resourcefulness Returns some materials. The only stat that improves profit on customer work orders where you do not provide mats.
Crafting Speed Matters only for high-volume mass crafting. Generally skip.

Realistic gold-per-week expectations

Income is steady, not explosive. Cooldown bolts plus a few spellthreads guarantee weekly sales even with five cooldowns. Cloth farming in a Zul’Aman group has been reported at 50,000+ gold per hour early season. Overall, Tailoring is a reliable mid-tier gold profession whose margins depend heavily on realm competition; expect strong early-season returns that taper as more crafters reach max Knowledge. To break in on a competitive server: get the daily cooldowns running day one, chase the raid-drop and renown spellthread recipes before others, and lean on Multicraft to out-margin undercutters.

Materials and farming

Every reagent, where it comes from, and the routes worth your time.

Material Use Source
Bright Linen Base bolts, all leveling Humanoid mobs; AH
Sunfire Silk High-end bolts, linings, bags Humanoid mobs (needs Nimble Needlework 20 pts)
Arcanoweave High-end bolts, linings Humanoid mobs (needs Nimble Needlework 20 pts)
Mote of Light / Mote of Wild Magic Cooldown bolts Drops and AH
Eversinging Dust, Radiant Shard Spellthreads, Elegant Artisan gear Enchanting mats
Silverleaf Thread, Embroidery Floss Leveling crafts Vendor (supply vendor by trainer)

Best farming routes

Best raw cloth per hour

Zul'Aman group farm

The Broken Throne area southwest, dense with Twilight Blade Cultists. Circle-pull the packs. A reported 200 to 300 Bright Linen plus about 100 each of the other two cloths per 30 minutes; one player reported 106 Bright Linen, 74 high-quality Bright Linen, 25 high-quality Sunfire Silk, and 19 high-quality Arcanoweave in 20 minutes. Look for “cloth farm” groups in group finder.

Best solo

Shadowguard Point Delve

Very open and humanoid-heavy. Set Valeera to healer, mount through pulling everything, AoE at the boss platform, loot, reset. About 25 to 30 cloth per run.

Fastest small run

The Grudge Pit (Harandar)

Smallest delve, humanoid-dense, easy solo Tier 1.

Situational

Open-world Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman

Works but bursty and inconsistent. The community believes the first-few-kills-then-nothing pacing is an anti-bot measure.

Reagent quality tiers

Two tiers now: Silver and Gold. Higher-quality cloth comes from the Fabric Specialist quality nodes and killing higher-level mobs. Use Gold mats (or Concentration) to hit Gold-quality crafts.

Synergies and setup

The pairing, the tools, and the addons that make the profession run itself.

★ Best pairing

Enchanting

You disenchant your own crafted gear and unwanted drops into materials, and both markets stay relevant all expansion. Tailoring is the natural partner for Enchanting because your crafts and gear feed the disenchant economy. Gathering professions (Skinning while you farm humanoids, or Herbalism and Mining to fund crafts) are the alternative if you want Tailoring to be self-funding, but Enchanting is the pick for a dedicated crafter.

Race and class

  • Kul Tiran (Alliance) grants +2 Tailoring skill via the Jack of All Trades racial. Otherwise racial bonuses are negligible.
  • Cloth classes (Mage, Warlock, Priest) get the most direct use from crafted cloth armor.
  • For farming, AoE and mobility classes shine: Balance Druid, Guardian Druid, and Beast Mastery Hunter are the named picks for 2x4 group hyperspawn farms.

Required tools and accessories

Enchant your tool for your priority stat: Multicraft for reagents, Ingenuity for Concentration crafting, Resourcefulness for work orders.

TradeSkillMaster (TSM)

Full pricing, inventory, crafting profit, and batch auction posting. Working in 12.0.

Myu's Knowledge Points Tracker

Tracks all weekly and one-time KP sources (now a standalone addon).

Altoholic

Tracks gold, mats, cooldowns, and lockouts across your alt army.

Weekly checklist

Every reset, a max-level tailor should run this loop.

Daily
Craft both cooldown bolts (Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk). Never skip; they compound.
2 KP
Complete the weekly trainer quest (3 crafting orders).
4 KP
Loot the treasure drops: Embroidered Memento and Finely Woven Lynx Collar.
~12 KP
Fill Patron Crafting Orders for Knowledge and gold.
1 KP
Order or craft your Thalassian Treatise.
Spark
Grab the Spark of Radiance weekly quest from Lady Liadrin, and craft or recraft a gear piece if you have 2 Sparks banked.
Mats
Run one cloth farm session (Zul’Aman group or Shadowguard Point solo) to restock Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave.
Gold
Post bags, spellthreads, and linings to the AH; refresh undercut auctions.
Monthly
Do the Darkmoon Faire profession quest when the Faire is up (3 KP plus 2 skill).

Patch-current notes

What is live, and what lands on August 11.

Live in 12.0.7

Tailoring is stable. The main day-one veteran traps: no unraveling, two reagent ranks, Moxie replacing Acuity, and the unusually high KP cost to reach Gold-without-Concentration.

Coming in 12.1 “Curse of Ula’tek” (Aug 11) and Season 2 (Aug 18)

All subject to change: PTR

One-time Knowledge reset

Confirmed by Blizzard: once per profession, refunds all spent KP for free reassignment. Scout your target build before confirming; it is one-shot. Base skill, renown, and trainer recipes are untouched.

New Spark reagent

Spark of Tides replaces Spark of Radiance (used directly, 2 to 4 per craft, still one per week).

New upgrade currency

Mistcrests replace Dawncrests. Crafted gear costs 80 crests to craft; upgrades are a flat 20 crests per rank plus a small gold fee. Alts get a 50% crest discount after a main hits a track cap.

Gearing curve up 46 item levels

The crafted ceiling rises accordingly. See the conflicting Myth 6/6 readings above.

One new Tailoring embellishment

Procs a DPS effect on an armor piece. Described by community sources as underwhelming. Part 2 covers what is datamined about it.
